Your Summer at-a-glance: Invesco’s Summer Equity Investment Analyst program provides a unique opportunity to experience the day-to-day functions of a fundamental focused investment team at Invesco Canada. Team Overview: We are a long-only mutual fund manager located in Toronto. The team manages several concentrated equity mandates and focuses on global and Canadian equities greater than $1bn in market cap. The mandates are supported by an in-depth fundamental research process that assesses business quality, management capabilities and valuation. Your Opportunity: The Summer Equity Investment Analyst will have the opportunity to experience firsthand the life cycle of their investment team’s investment process and how the team makes portfolio decisions. Typical projects may include generating investment ideas, performing deep fundamental research, meeting management teams, and presenting investment recommendations to the team. The summer analyst will also learn how to build and communicate a concise investment thesis in the context of non-perfect information. The summer analyst may also be asked to present to the investment team a stock or industry that they have researched.
Throughout the summer you'll benefit from working with our Toronto team to learn how to
• Research and analyze businesses/industries via public disclosures (i.e. 10-k, earnings/conference transcripts), sell-side research, expert networks and industry resources
• Build three statement financial and discounted cash flow models
• Collaborate with portfolio managers on research projects
• Write concise investment reports summarizing key insights, opinions and recommendations/conclusions
• Debate opinions and recommendations with the investment team
• Utilize financial market databases, software and other resources to source, organize and analyze company, industry and/or market data
• Potential to interact/interview public company management teams
• Research and exchange information via weekly team meetings regarding broader industry trends, company developments, investment philosophy/process and the economic climate
• Complete additional, special research projects at the request of Portfolio Managers on the investment team
Application Eligibility:
• Current undergraduate student (2024 or 2025 scheduled graduation) in Business (Commerce), Finance, Accounting, Math, Engineering, Economics, Science, or Technology
• A clearly defined interest in business and investing
• Strong quantitative skills and a keen eye for attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Exceptional work ethic, resourcefulness and the ability to work autonomously
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
• Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to new situations
• High professional standards including a strong sense of personal integrity and teamwork
• Independent thinker and proven ability to make decisions
• Proven record of outstanding achievement in academic and extracurricular activities
